Spoken feedback uses your device's voice and powers Drive mode (🚗 in the header): a giant push-to-talk, huge readout, memory / volume / band buttons — designed for minimum glance time. Set up before you drive; the operator is responsible for driving safely and legally.

Help

Connecting

Enter the radio's address (sbitx.local or its IP) and the passkey from sbitx/data/user_settings.ini on the radio (factory default is often 123).

Opening Skywave over HTTPS? Browsers block plain links from secure pages. Pick Secure · port 8443, then visit https://your-radio:8443 once and accept the certificate warning — after that, Connect works. Alternatives: allow "insecure content" for this site in your browser, or copy index.html into the radio's own web/ folder and browse to it there.

Drive mode & spoken feedback

The 🚗 button opens a minimal, glance-friendly layout: giant push-to-talk, huge frequency readout, and big memory / volume / band buttons. Tap the frequency to hear it and the signal strength. Spoken feedback (Settings → Accessibility) reads out connection, frequency, band and on-air changes so your eyes stay where they belong. Set everything up before you drive — the operator is responsible for safe, legal use.

Transmit safety

Transmit stops automatically if you release the key, hide the tab, close the page, or exceed the watchdog time (set in Settings). The Tune carrier switches itself off after 10 seconds. A licence is required to transmit.

Accessibility statement

Skywave is designed to conform to WCAG 2.1 level AA, with AAA techniques where practical. Every control is native, labelled HTML operable by keyboard and touch with 44 px targets; frequency, connection and transmit state are announced to screen readers; ON AIR is conveyed by text, shape and colour together; the dial is an ARIA spinbutton speaking values in kilohertz and the signal meter is an ARIA meter (for example "S9 plus 20 dB"). Body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible; a dedicated high-contrast theme, four text sizes and 200 % zoom reflow are provided; and all animation honours your reduce-motion preference plus the in-app switch. Optional spoken feedback reads state changes aloud, key-up/down haptics confirm transmit by touch, and Drive mode offers an extra-large, minimal-glance layout for mobile/eyes-busy operation. If something gets in your way, please tell the operator of this deployment — accessibility reports are treated as defects.
